Bank of England speaker reports ‘good outlook’ to Worcestershire businesses

Glynn Jones from The Bank of England gave Worcestershire businesses an exclusive insight into how The Bank views the implications of Brexit short and long term. This morning’s event was hosted by SME Solicitors and BRI Wealth Management and attended by 65 local businesses.

Covering topics such as monetary policy, skills mismatch (and the impact of that on the labour market), the immediate weakening in the property market particularly in the South East and forward guidance on interest rates, Mr Jones’ stance on behalf of the Bank of England is that although the county is moving into unchartered waters post Brexit, the underlying resilience of the economy sets the UK in good stead.

Glynn Jones said: “The Brexit vote spillovers into the global economy are relatively limited. The domestic outlook is weaker in growth terms. There has been a drop but that was from a high level, but the Bank is seeing the start of this slowdown as part of a cyclical pattern in the economy as much as to do with the Referendum vote.”

SME Solicitors’ Managing Partner Yvonne Tivey co-hosted the event with Vince Hopkins from BRI Wealth Management. She comments: “Thanks to everyone who attended, we were pleased to welcome a capacity audience. Glynn gave a useful and detailed insight on the post Brexit vote story.”
